Oh yes, as lovely as they are, I think most of us

feel a bit under pressure.

Cleaning, decorating our homes, shopping,

cooking, eating-too-much!

I try to keep it simple with food and gifts, but I love decorating
my house and table with greens, pine cones, gourds, candles.......
and of course fabrics.

My go-to source for last minute sprucing up is
our Home Decorating remnant tables (how convenient).
 Perfect for covering
anything less than beautiful in my house.

No matter how simple the gift, it's always nice
to wrap it well.  I'm a big fan of our sheer ribbons

(the ones we tie around customers bags).

They just look sooo yummy in a bow...layered...

mixed with several different colors and widths.

Makes even a gift of coal appreciated!

Our co-worker Lindell made the cutest baby quilt using a
panel from Riley Blake's "Woodland Trails" collection.

This is a very quick and easy quilt to make and works
well for either a girl's or boy's room.

Lindell did her own (unbelievably quilted!) thing,
but there is a pattern on the Riley Blake website.

Yummy colors and textures.  Great for making
 handbags, media covers, belts, hats,
cool bookends...  Don't be afraid, it's not that hard to 
work with.  For larger projects, we have full hides as well.

I fell in love (love, love, love...) with the grey colorway.
You really have to see them in person to appreciate the colors.

If you're like most people, you're probably well on your way
into several projects intended for holiday gifts.
If you are like me, however, you might be looking for something
fabulous to whip up at the almost last minute 
(let it go, let it go, we all can't be perfect).
So, for those of you who have that disease, or if you just want to
keep it simple, we have some really fun yarn to
make fabulous scarves with.

"Glee" from Berroco has great colors and knits or
crochets up quickly and easily into a fun spiral scarf.

For something a bit more frilly there's

"Scandalicious!" from Plymouth Yarns.

Maureen has been knitting up the cutest baby

sweater and hat sets using Sirdar "Crofter" and "Snuggly".

These are great yarns for baby knits, extremely soft

and washable.  The "Crofter" knits up in a Fair Isle pattern

without having to deal with multiple yarns.  Hooray!

I love this yarn, it's so soft and the colors are scrumptious!

Jennifer made a sweet hat pattern using just one skein

of this beautiful Grandiosa Hand-Dyed yarn.

The pattern is free with purchase of any chunky yarn.

Happy Campers!

July has come and gone...and summer's end is near.

Jennifer Ziehl Vacca's first season of summer classes was

a great success.  The students were mostly beginner sewers.

It was amazing to see how fast they learned
and the incredible array of things they created...bags, belts,
skirts, pillowcases and even a quilt!

 Now we're gearing up for Fall...very busy time of year.

Lot's of new classes are being offered

and more will be added throughout the season.

Drawing In Thread

This past week, I went to the Nancy Crow exhibit at the Fuller Craft Museum.  If you haven't been to the Fuller, it is well worth the trip. As the name states, it's a museum devoted to crafts, a distinction I've always been a bit uncomfortable with - the whole "art vs craft" thing.  Most of their exhibits are devoted to craftmanship of some sort - textile arts, glasswork, ceramics, furniture etc., but the majority are created as works of expression and form rather than function.  Nancy Crow's exhibit is a perfect case in point.  She creates with quilts.  I wasn't very familiar with her work before my visit and my immediate impression was that these were paintings - paintings in fabric.  Unfortunately, they didn't allow photographs, but I purchased the exhibit catalog which has all of her newest pieces along with details of her process.  Click on the links above to learn more about the exhibit and Nancy Crow.

 Another exhibit on my calendar: Drawing In Thread at Mount Ida College.  This exhibit features contemporary, non-traditional embroidery artists.  Should be interesting.  Exhibit ends Sunday May 2nd.

A blast from the past rolled into the store the other day.  A quilt with Town of Franklin landmarks made for the bicentennial (1976).  Notice what was playing at the movies that year....JAWS!  and....the Franklin Mill Store is lookin' quite cute too, doncha think?

Sarah made this adorable version of the Ellen Medlock Interchangeable Bag using Kaffe Fassett's "Kirman" pattern:

and Dorothy made this little one using the Quilt Plus Petit Purse pattern.  The fabric is "Timber" by Jessica Levitt, and the handles by Inazuma .  Both these bags are super easy to make.

Nancy and I are brushing up on our french these days (plus, I can only say "cute" so many times on this blog).  These felted slippers, designed and made by Nancy may be the last of the felting spree she's been on.....but they are cute aren't they?
